This four-print series featuring the legendary Dolly Parton takes its cues from another Nashville institution: Hatch Show Print. Inspired by the bold typography and imperfect textures of vintage country music posters, the series was layed out and printed by hand, combining letterpressed wood type and screenprinted graphics. Part poster and part pep talk, the hero print offers a guiding principle for moments when it feels like the world is falling apart: “What Would Dolly Do?”
The three companion prints follow Dolly’s lead: Deep sincerity with a side of self aware humor. Pulling from the visual language of roadside ephemera, concert posters, and Southern print culture, the series is both a tribute to Dolly Parton, and an exploration of how humor, typography, and printmaking can combine to celebrate an American legend.
